The Ladies 1s kicked off their 2024/25 league campaign on Saturday, this time in Division 3 after successfully securing promotion in the previous season.
The side had 3 additions to last year’s side in Zara Etty, Chloe Chippendale, and Erin MacQuarrie, who all played a vital role in their debut league fixture against Southwell.
After the new appointment of coach Aimee Cleminson, the team have worked incredibly hard in the lead up to the season. Whilst many of the areas the side have been working on showed vast improvements compared with last year, Charnwood Forest Ladies were unfortunate to lose 2-0 in their opening game.
The first half was a well fought battle, where Charnwood denied Southwell from multiple opportunities. Defensively, the side showed real promise for the season ahead with strong, well-timed tackles, and some big saves from keeper, Abi Draper. Tamsin Perrett also saved a goal on the line to keep the side in the game heading in to half time.
The midfield and forward lines had a lot of running to do to support the defence, but also to propel forward to create their own attacks. Going in to the latter stages of the second-half, Southwell’s persistent attacks eventually became fruitful against a run down Charnwood side.
Whilst there were many positives that the side will take away from the fixture, the team will be working hard looking ahead to their next game in two weeks.
