Captain's Reports

L1s by Georgia Relf

After last year’s promotion, we knew stepping up a league would be a big challenge – and it definitely was. Thankfully, a few new faces joined the squad and slotted in brilliantly, giving us the boost we needed to compete at this level.

We played some really good hockey throughout the season, even if the score lines didn’t always do us justice. Post-Christmas, the league decided to shake things up by announcing they’d be relegating three teams instead of two (thanks for that), which made things a little more nerve-wracking than we’d planned.

But we stuck together, kept battling, and got the results when they mattered. In the end, we finished mid-table – not bad for a team that spent half the season trying to work out what “pressing high” actually meant.

Roll on next season!

L2s by Joanne Wilson

What a season the L2s have had this year!

Whilst still adopting the Development tag for this season, it turned out we needn't have done so!

The L2s had been a true mix of youth and experience.

The experience and leadership shown from the senior players this year has been truly exceptional, creating an environment for youngsters to play in, thrive and grow.

Had we not have had the Dev tag to our name, it's more than possible we'd have gained promotion, a scary thought.

The young guns, started the season largely quiet and happy to stand off but as the games came and went there was improvement with every match. A pretty consistent core group of players week in and week out has really made a key difference.

In the division we are in, there's only one team who beat us both home and away, we've won 13 games this season, when looking back only a couple of seasons, 13 may have been the average number of goals we conceded in a game!!

Next season is an exciting prospect for us, and I'm truly hoping we continue to get results as and we will at last ditch the Dev tag and strive for success.

M1s by Alex Dennet

Overall this season was a good one, we went into the season with hopes and aspirations of filling one of those two promotional spots. Even with how many competitive teams that would also be pushing for them.

The first half of the season was a good run for us as we only lost two games from september to christmas, this was to eventually the league winners and third place. The only result we were disapointed at was the north notts game at home, as this too many was dropped points.

After christmas is when the goals and aims started to fade out as we went winless in january and picking up one point from five games. With the two university teams flying, these kind of results werent good enough for us.

We finished mid table however we can take loads of positives from the season. We were definitly one of the top two hockey playing sides in this league as we controlled the ball in most games, just taking our chances and letting leads slip was the downfall. Another positive is we used over the season the younger lads, some aged 13- 14 and slighter older lads, they proved they can play at this level, so well done to those.

We go again next season.

M2s by Markas Marriott

What can only be described as a very tough season. The 2’s started their campaign with a series of draws and very narrow 1 goal losses which unfortunately set the tone for their season. Things were compounded by the loss of their captain and focal point Rich Hope having to step down for personal reasons, he was greatly missed. To the credit of the players the team soldiered on and had a couple of standout performances delivering a first league defeat to second placed south notts being the highlight - the belief that they could push on and rise up table was there unfortunately after the turnaround results didn’t improve. Tommy wright stepped up as a welcome captain for the rest of the season and performed really well in this new role but team availability killed the hopes of the 2’s maintaining their league status. There can be fine margins in team sports and the 2’s will no doubt be a much stronger and better prepared unit next season as they look to bounce back.

M3s by Jake Ward

This season in the threes has been a huge change. From the start, lots of new players, new captain and new matchday coach. Starting the season off with a merciless 5-0 win. We knew we were in for an exiting season. However, this quickly turned around being narrowly overcome 5-1 in the next game. Things were really put into perspective for us. We really had no idea how the season would pan out. In the following weeks not being able to find steady form was damaging. It’s safe to say the first half of the season wasn’t as we’d hoped after a promising win first game of the season. Picking up some points, but not all left us under pressure to pick up form. What did we say to that? PRESSURE MAKES DIAMONDS! With 3 games to go until Christmas we began the comeback. Picking up 9 points from 3, this took us to Christmas on a huge high. By this point the lads really started to come together with a solid core beginning to form. Coming back after Christmas the threes made a statement of intent with another 5-0 win against the same team as the first game. However, this time we had found the wave, and we were gonna ride it! In the remaining 12 games only losing 2 to a very tough league winning side, and in each game we made it tough for them. This led us to a solid top 4 position that we were very happy with. Overall, a good season with a lot to take forward into next season. UP THE SQUIRRELS!!!

M4s by Markas Marriott

The 4ths had an incredibly difficult job this year to maintain their league status which had been kept in previous years by a number of other teams conceding walkovers but also made even more difficult with newer teams rising through the leagues. The first half of the season was a baptism of fire for the younger players but rather than hide which would have been the easy option they struck at the task, improved week on week and most importantly did it with a smile! This will stand each and every one of them in good stead as their adult hockey careers continue to blossom and they rise through the playing teams at the club.

So we done to alle, Alessandro, Emlyn, Felix, Matt, Sam and Shane for stepping up and making a lot of extremely tough games somewhat enjoyable.

The second half of the season the team became a lot more competitive and saw the team take good wins and some very narrow defeats. The feedback from a number of opposition teams was really positive on the team’s progression from the first half of the season. This also coincided with the avaiability of some of the veterans being available and really nurturing the younger players- thankyou Dirk,David, Will and Phillip for all your help - it was greatly appreciated. A final mention goes to the players who have either come back to hockey or started a fresh. Steve, Karri and Russel have been a pleasure to play with and look forward to them progressing next season.

Hermitage by David Boyd

24/25 was an enjoyable season for Hermitage with many successes but no prizes! We started strongly winning the first 5 games to top the league utilising the winning combination of young legs and bucket fulls of experience. A 1-0 defeat to the bottom club in November would come back to haunt us as we dominated the game but just couldn’t get the ball past an inspired away keeper.

A series of cancellations, bad weather and injuries to key ladies in December and January disrupted the season but we finished 2024 in style with our performance of the season a 3-1 victory against our nearest rivals.

We carried on where we left off for the remainder of the season and finished in a strong third place missing out on promotion by only one point.

Our final games of the season were in a play off for the plate final, narrowly missing out on a place in the final on penalty flicks.

Many thanks to the regular mixed players and also those from the men and ladies teams who have helped out throughout the season. Hopefully there will be some prizes to look forward to next year.

Carillon by Emily Harrison

Carillon A’s season has definitely been challenging for the team and we knew it was going to be tough having finished 1 point from relegation last season.

Unfortunately the first half of the season saw us up against some of the top teams In the league who frequently throughout the whole season came away with double figure wins against more than half of the teams. This being said, even with these big losses it didn’t stop the positive atmosphere in the team one bit and each week every single player came out and gave their 100% work rate.

During the second half of the season we came away with some great wins and close games against the second half of the table and even managed to pull of a win and a draw against the top teams!

We found ourself in the relegation area and if not a point a drift for the majority of the second half of the season but our positive energy, attitude and team work made us avoid division 2 hockey next season and we continue in the league that we have proved this season we deserve to be in.

Even with one game to go we could still finish the season mid table, which would be a remarkable end to the season.

It has been great having both ladies and men’s players and even juniors helping us out and gelling so well with the regular mixed team.
